The South Beach Diet is one of the most popular diet books on the market today. It has topped the NYTimes bestseller list for months. The book is written by a cardiologist - who developed the diet with the specific intent of helping people with heart trouble.

My cardiologist said that some of his patients (and friends) seem to be having good results with this diet and our friends agree that it's easier to follow (and stick to) than most of the diets out there right now.

I liked the book because it did a good job of explaining some of the principles of what makes a good diet in an easy to understand way.


The book explains things like how to cut down on cravings, and gives great suggestions for how to create a lower fat, higher fiber overall diet and loose weight without placing any limits on portion size. 
 
Of course, like all diet books it also has a specific three phase program that you can follow if you want to focus on loosing weight and learning the principles before creating your own ongoing diet.

We haven't had a chance to try many of the recipes in the newly released cookbook yet, but in flipping through it I was impressed with how focused it is on creating things that sound good to eat - not just finding things to eat that taste bad but adhere to a diet.  The cookbook is filled with South Beach Friendly recipes from celebrity chefs and fancy restaurants.
