I'd heard all about the famous studies showing that Red Wine can help improve cholesterol levels. One glass of red wine a day they said... I've now learned that doctors think red wine can help raise HDL levels (the good cholesterol) and prevent blood clotting. Plus, I love red wine, so this was a great excuse to stock up!

There doesn't seem to be agreement on exactly why red wine works, but why wait for that -- this was the perfect excuse to start having just a little more of something I already love.  I'm careful not to overdo though as alcohol can lower your metabolism which would impact the benefits from all the exercise I'm doing.  I have maybe 2-3 glasses over the course of the week, savoring each one!

Now that we cook at home more, I find that having that glass of wine makes my meals feel more special, especially at home.

How do I choose what wine to buy? Luckily price doesn't seem to matter (at least not for cholesterol). I searched on wine web sites and recommendations from friends, and then ordered several at a time on the internet. My collection is made up of lower priced (but yummy) wines that I can open whenever I feel like it and higher priced wines that I can open when friends are over or on a special evening.
