The Atkins diet is controversial because it omits even good carbs and encourages eating high fat meats.  Still, some people have good results with weight loss on the Atkins diet - or when following a modified Atkins diet that uses lean cuts of meat and low carb vegetables like Asparagus and greens.

Atkins has become much easier to follow in the past year with the advent of Atkins approved dishes at many popular restaurants and Atkins products in supermarkets.

I did not follow the Atkins diet, preferring the less controversial diets
